Casino & Gaming Access Solutions

Increasing security in casinos and gaming businesses while allowing thousands of workers to authenticate themselves and track their hours at the beginning and end of a shift.

Casinos handle large amounts of cash on a daily basis and must follow strict security practices. In fact, two of the world’s largest gambling destinations bring in over $6 billion each. The Las Vegas strip pulled in $6.69 billion in 2006 and casinos in Macau brought in $6.95 billion.

The casino industry around the world is also heavily regulated and closely monitored by various governments. Casinos are often
publicly-held companies and must undergo strict scrutiny by the likes of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the U.S. and its counterparts around the world.

Casinos are often large operations that house thousands of machines and hundreds of tables, restaurants, theatres and hotels. Over 1 million visitors head from mainland China alone to the island of Macau each month. A record 38.9 billion people visited Las Vegas last year and in order to handle them, casinos must employ thousands, and in some cases, tens of thousands of hotel, restaurant, convention centre and gaming room staff. At the same time, casinos need to be extremely careful about monitoring the comings and goings of employees and they cannot afford to take any chances about who is entering a restricted area.

This is why casinos are increasingly turning to biometric identification to secure access for employees as they come and go for work and enter restricted areas. Biometric solutions not only increase security significantly, they do so without creating any bottlenecks and allow thousands of workers to authenticate themselves and track their hours at the beginning and end of a shift. Thousands of workers can seamlessly pass through biometrically-enabled speed gates at the beginning of a shift — each authenticating him or herself in under a second at L-1’s fingerprint or face readers by using his or her finger or face for positive identification.

L-1 Enterprise Access Solutions

L-1 fingerprint reader solutions use the company’s renowned finger matching systems in order to authenticate users in under a second. The enterprise access division’s pattern matching algorithm is sensor agnostic, and as a result can be ported to different readers without the need to re-enroll employees as a casino’s needs evolve, allowing them, for example to incorporate mobile fingerprint scanners if needed. The fingerprint readers can be used in conjunction with smart cards, tokens and/or PINs for dual- or multi-factor authentication.

L-1 3D face reader solutions are another unique solution found only at L-1. The face readers offer convenient hands-free access control as employees need to only pause in front of the face reader to authenticate themselves. The face reader’s structured light approach allows it to make a match even in poor lighting conditions. L-1 readers also support smart cards and PINs for dual- or multi-factor authentication.
